Water Damage Do’s and Don’ts
In the event of water damages,
DO:
- Ventilate affected areas.
- Remove standing water from flat surfaces by sponging and blotting.
- Wipe water from wood furniture tops after removal of lamps and decorative items.
- Blot wet carpeting with clean towels.
- Take up saturated rugs and carpets when hardwood floors are at risk.
- If available, place aluminum foil squares, china saucers or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.
- Keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water
DO NOT:
- Use your household vacuum to remove water.
- Leave wet fabrics in place; dry them as soon as possible.
- Operate TVs or other appliances while standing on wet carpet or floors; especially concrete floors as serious injury may result.
- Leave books, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet floors.
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet.
